The rain, shots fired, then the lights went out

On Friday we laid brother Bill to rest. He was a nice guy! No, not my biological brother but a brother in Christ. He was 77, but had lots of health problems.

He was legally blind but he never let that stop him. During the memorial service, the minister was saying that Bill could finally see now that he was in Heaven. THEN--the lights in the church went out. He had to use a flashlight to finish the service. It made you think that perhaps Bill was making a point.

At the cemetery it was very wet. Lots of pouring rain while we moved the casket from the hearse to under the tent.

Bill was a marine, something he never mentioned. He was involved in the Korean Conflict. So there was a ceremony with shots being fired and the presentation of the flag to Bill's daughter. Very nice.

Bill was a computer programmer years ago before his eye sight was lost. He was a nice guy who never complained about how tough he had it. He was raised by foster parents.

Did I mention that Bill was a nice guy? In a world that is mean and ugly and self-centered he will be missed. You can never have too many nice guys. I will miss you Bill!
Peace

Sunshine Makes a Difference

Sunshine makes a difference. When you are down and hurting emotionally and the day is overcast and dreary, a ray of sunshine makes a difference. Today is April 5 and the sun is shining. Life is good.

I remember when I came home from the funeral of my son and for the first time noticed how dark our basement was. It wasn't any darker than before but inside I was dark and dreary. A person is that way for a long time after a loss. But little by little there is more sunshine and the dark dreary days become less and less oppressing.

There are people who experience SAD (seasonal affective Disorder) and they feel down and depressed during the winter months.

I have a friend who loves rainy dark days. I have never asked her if she gets depressed when the sun shines. Perhaps I should.

There are those who believe that sonshine makes a difference too. I am one of them. Perhaps that will only make sense to Christians. Regardless of how you view sunshine or sonshine I hope we can get along with one another. Peace.
