Peace

If I were to suggest one word that could change the world in 2010 it would be the word peace.

If more individuals could only find inner peace s/he would be more content and less contentious. If nations had a peace college instead of a war college the world would be more peaceful.

Many times people seek out peaceful surroundings when they go on vacation so they can "get away from it all". Several major religions are based on the major premise of finding peace in one's life.

I think one must be careful in talking about peace. Some people who have talked about and worked for peace have lost their lives. For example, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whom I admire greatly, was killed. Two of the principles of the Camp David accord, aimed at making peace between the Palestinians and Israelis lost their lives. It can be dangerous and life threatening to promote peace.

I find it ironic and troubling that in Iraq so many lives were lost trying to drive the Allied forces from that country; when all the combatants had to do, was agree to peace, stop fighting, and the foreign forces would have left.

Some one once said that you cannot find peace until you find all the pieces. Much time is spent with counselors trying to find peace with one's past. Billions of dollars are spent on drugs, both legal and illegal, in an effort to find peace with one's surrounding or in one's life.

So here is the word I would encourage you to focus on for 2010, peace. Find it, seek it, and make it yours. You can also share this word with others, but only if you dare!
Peace
