Laughter and grief

Laughter is very important, even when you are grieving. I realize that one does not feel like laughing when one's heart is hurting so much. However, it is important to laugh from time to time.

Probably the first time you laugh a little you will feel guilty that you actually had a little fun or for a moment forgot about your pain, but try not to feel too guilty. It is OK to laugh.

Try to remember what made you laugh before your whole world changed and grief and pain intruded into your world. Was it a funny joke or a funny show or a certain comedian that caused that laugh out loud response?

Perhaps you can even think about what made the person you are grieving for laugh. There must have been a joyful time when you and he/she were together, and something funny or ridiculous happened? Go ahead and smile--then shed a tear if you need to.

Laughter will one day become a regular part of your life even if you don't feel that it is possible today. At one time I didn't think so either but now I live to laugh once more.
Peace
