Northern Illinois University Tragedy

This time it wasn't somewhere in Colorado or Virginia but in Illinois. This time it was in the corn fields, not far away from us.

Young people who had their whole life ahead of them were killed by someone who didn't take his medicine. How sad!

It is in times like these that we ask why? Why my son, why my daughter, why me, why us? There are answers that come but they take awhile and they don't bring your loved one back. During a very difficult funeral service I heard a minister once say, “God didn't give us answers, He gave us Jesus”. That isn't the answer we want to hear.

The holidays are never the same, life is never the same, and yet not one bird stops singing. The world moves forward and you want to yell STOP! But in response all you hear is your heartbreak.

Many of those grieving assembled at churches today and cried their tears and prayed their prayers. There will be many more tears and many more prayers. Many will pray for peace--and there will be no peace for months and perhaps years to come. Yet, somehow, they must find a reason to go on; a reason to sleep, and eat, and work. It is never easy but it is always the choice one has to make. May they find peace.
